Quam Celerrime Ad Astra - With all Speed to the Stars
Formed at Hounslow Heath in 1914, 27 Squadron Royal Air Force fought on the Western Front between 1916 and 1918 and then in Malaya and Burma during the Second World War.
27 Squadron is based at RAF Odiham, home of the UK Chinook Helicopter Force. The Squadron has undertaken reconnaissance, night-fighter, anti-shipping and support helicopter roles. Aircraft flown include the Elephant, Dakota C4, Tornado GR1 and Puma. 27 Squadron provided tactical air transport to front-line troops in Iraq (Operation TELIC) and Afghanistan (Operation HERRICK).
